A Rare Piece of Yankees Memorabilia:  An original 1960 Team Photo Signed by 37

This remarkable 16x20 original black-and-white photograph of the iconic 1960 New York American League Champion Yankees captures the heart of one of baseball’s most storied teams. Signed in vintage-blue fountain pen ink by 37 Yankees, including legends Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris, as well as coaches, trainers, and even batboys, it's a piece of baseball history that resonates with anyone who cherishes the team's golden era.

This vintage beauty was taken by Luis Requea, the Yankees acclaimed official photographer, whose cartouche appears in the lower right corner. This image was never made available to the public, given only to players and executives, and very few have survived the decades. In fact, this is the first example we've seen—a rare find that speaks to both its exclusivity and preservation. We estimate no more than 2 or 3 of these (at best) have survived.

Signed by some of the greatest Yankees players and personalities of the 1960 team, this photo also marks the dawn of Maris’s back-to-back MVP seasons. In addition to the M&M Boys, who combined for 79 homers and over 200 runs batted in, it includes the scarce Elston Howard autograph--he passed away in 1980, age just 51. Also, Hofers Whitey Ford and Berra, Skorwon, Richardson, Kubek, Boyer, Lopez, Blanchard, the very tough autographs of Duke Maas and Deron Johnson (single signed balls just don't exist),closers Luis Arroyo and Ryne Duren, Stafford, Coates, Ditmer, Turley, Shantz, Grba, Cerv, Mc Dougald and Hal Stowe, who appeared in just one inning (and 3 outs) that season.  All the starters and stars are here, their signatures proudly displayed across their iconic white pinstripes.

The collection of autographs is so complete that it includes Ralph Houk, as well as coaches Hegan, Lopat and Crosetti. In addition, the trainers Gus Mauch and Joe Soares and the two bat boys! This extraordinary team photo captures each player’s mark, uniting a lineup that defined Yankees greatness in 1960. A collector could not ask for more.

Each of the 37 signatures was executed in 1960, with none added later in a different pen, maintaining the authenticity and historical integrity of the piece. This detail is especially significant for Mantle’s autograph, as his signature style evolved dramatically over the years—this one is “pure 1960 Mantle!”. Furthermore, the presence of the Luis Requea cartouche not only enhances the photo’s value but also further establishes it as a premium collectible.

It’s worth noting that 37 signatures is an unusually high number for any team-signed item, making this photo exceptionally rare and desirable for collectors of Yankees memorabilia.

The 1960 Yankees continued their league dominance, finishing eight games ahead of the second-place Orioles. But in the World Series, they met a shocking and unforgettable end. Despite outscoring the Pirates 55 to 27 over seven games, they fell to Pittsburgh in Game 7, when Bill Mazeroski’s walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth made history as the first—and still only—walk-off homer to clinch a World Series.

The suddenness of the loss hit hard, even for seasoned Yankees. Mickey Mantle later recalled it was the only time he cried after a game, underscoring just how heartbreaking and unexpected the Series loss truly was.

We were fortunate to acquire this rarity from a longstanding collection that hasn’t surfaced in the hobby in decades. Preserved with care and tucked away for years, this exceptional piece is now available—a true gem for any serious Yankees or baseball memorabilia collector. Framed to perfection, it’s a collector's dream, merging rarity with deep historical significance and the undeniable charisma of a legendary team. Comes with the all-important PSA/DNA letter of authenticity. For the Yankee collector who loves rarity and importance.
